The Gilbert Lesser designed logo is all that remains at 254 W54th St.
The former opera house and CBS studio that was home to Captain Kangaroo is indelibly stamped as the place to be seen at the height of the disco era. Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager opened the doors to Studio 54 in 1977 and earned a reputed $7 million in its first year. By the time the doors closed in 1981 both Rubell and Schrager had been convicted of tax evasion and disco was dead.
did u ever make it in there?
I wasn’t pretty enough to make it past the rope.
