While the QuickFacts from the 2010 US Census can tell us who is Black (26.6%), Hispanic (27%) and White (44.7%) the most startling number comes from the 2010 American Community Survey. The Survey tells us that 20.1% of New Yorkers live in poverty. One in Five people in New York City live in poverty! That is up from 18.7% in 2009. How high would the numbers be if the recession was not over?
